The 2020 Spring Gala A Neptunian Evening Supporting Coney Island USA We request the pleasure of your company at the Coney Island USA 2020 Spring Gala, set against the majestic backdrop of the New York Aquarium. Surrounded by coral reefs, sharks, rays, and more than 100 other species of exotic sea creatures, you’ll enjoy fine hors d'oeuvres, specialty cocktails, and an array of Coney Island USA’s signature delights. New York rock and roll legend Garland Jeffreys headlines the event’s entertainment, and a DJ’ed dance party unlike any other awaits you. Your attendance will benefit our not-for-profit arts organization, its programming and landmarked home on Surf Avenue, and the Coney Island Museum. VIP Admission Guests with VIP-level gala tickets are invited to join us in “Neptune’s Lair,” an exclusive ocean-themed area on the aquarium’s second level . VIPs may partake of a buffet-style repast amid a sea of ambient entertainment; you’ll also have access to the aquarium’s beautiful terrace (weather permitting) and stunning beach views. In this sung-through and psychedelic sci-fi satire, characters resembling Sidney Poitier, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Coogan and Jayne Mansfield tussle with a talking, flying, brain-eating Wurlitzer Model 1100 juke box – with results as mind-blowing and out there as anything you’ve ever seen at the sideshow. For Coney Island USA , 2019 was a year to overcome challenges, and celebrate our success. We began the year facing the overwhelming task of replacing the ceiling in our Freak Bar and Gift Shop - and completed those repairs in time for Opening Day. We partied with sharks and sea-creatures in the NY Aquarium at our annual Spring Gala, and cheered Coney Island royalty Nora and Arlo Guthrie as they led the Mermaid Parade . Puppets, bellydancers, and Schlitzie the Pinhead entertained us, and our all-star cast of sideshow performers were seen at the Metropolitan Opera, on PBS, and at Ripley's in Times Square. The Coney Island Museum made major exhibition upgrades, and oversaw the important restoration of a vintage Tornado roller coaster car. Our annual Fall Gala, Creeptacular , closed out the season in a delightfully dark fashion.
